Want to Upgrade My Reciever

» Want to Upgrade My Reciever

I would like to get a DVR receiver and replace an old Direct TV receiver that I purchased 14 years ago. The question that I have is why will Direct TV give new subscribers a DVR receiver free if they sign up but will not replace an old receiver with the newer DVR receiver for a loyal customer who has maintained an active account for more than 14 years? This makes no sense to me. I would have to cancel my servcie and wait a period of time and then join again later as a new customer to get a new DVR receiver. It makes common sense to upgrade old equipment to keep a loyal customer who never has a billing issue. Is there any way to do this without changing to DISH network? I just do not think that DISH network has the same channel offerings as Direct TV. You feeback is greatly appreciated.

I get these types of questions often. It seems that Both Satellite Providers have had this problem from time-to-time. Dish started a program a couple years ago for existing customers, but Directv (as far as i know) has not done this yet.

In Directv’s defence, they have been going through changes with the way they offer free equipment and it seems they are starting to model themselves after Dish Network.

Last year, before Directv started making their own DVR’s, they did offer a rebate for existing customers. I have looked and looked, but can not find it anymore. I assume you talked to Direct and they shot you down??

In my opinion, Dish has the better programming and better programming prices (A few Bucks). They also have three times more HD channels than anyone else has. Also in my opinion, Direct’s only advantage it The NFL Sunday Ticket.

Do you have certain channels you are looking for?

If you call DTV and tell them you want to CANCEL your subscription. They will offer incentives to keep your business. Hold out for a free DVR. They give those away every day to anniversary customers (10 to 14 months with DTV).

Thank you so very much for your feedback. I was always under the assumption that Direct TV had the better programming. Perhaps I just always thought this because the had the best name recognition where I live. I am going to look into the programming differences in programming and call Dish network directly. Thank you for all of your assistance.

I am also haveing a problem with Direct Tv . in June 2006 I upgraded to a hdtv dvr tivo and I paid over $500 from best buy and I was told that it picked up local hdtv stations but when I got it home and contacted Direct tv they told me that at the end of the month they would be set up in my area for the local channels hd and that I would need a different receiver and it would not be a problem because I am leasing now so , I called them when the new receiver came out and now it is a differnt story . They want another 299 for a upgrade , I told what I was told and said that the best that they could do is drop the price $75, I told them that no way , and as soon as I can, I am switching to Dish.
