Satellite TV Offers Another vacation home quetion» Another vacation home quetionHello - I read the 6/05 post about taking one of your home receivers and putting it in a vacation home. Great information about all the cabling issues. That part I sort of understand. I do, however, have a variation on the same question with a Dish TV set up. We have a 2 receiver set-up in our primary residence. We have a 522 and a 322. The dish is a Dish Pro 500 with a dual LNB (whatever that is?) A 2-headed whatever at the end of the arm. The kids are finally out of the house, so I’d like to take the 322 and put it into a vacation home we’re thinking about (not to far from where we currently are - good exposure, etc.) since I’m already paying for the receiver. The place won’t have a land phone line. However, cell phone service does work. I have an extra Dish Pro 500 dish, but no LNB (whatever that is?) I guess my questions are: Is this going to work or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide. Comments (1) -> “Another vacation home quetion”

Hi, First, an LNB is,
A low-noise block converter (LNB, for low-noise block) is used in communications satellite (usually broadcast satellite) reception. The LNB is fixed on the satellite dish attached to an arm about 12″ long at the bottom of the dish.
This is always referred to as the LNB and it converts the signal from the satellite in space so it can be viewed on your TV.
A Dish 500 is the correct Dish. The best LNB for your set up is a “Dish Pro Twin” or “Dish Pro Plus” LNB. With the Dish Pro Twin, you would run two wires from the dish to your receiver. With the Dish Pro Plus LNB you would only run one wire to the receiver then use the splitter that is on the receiver now to split the line. But, that’s only if you are going to use the dual tuner feature. ( I hope this is making since)
Normally i just point people to use Ebay for parts like this. This is not an endorsement of eBay but is a good tool if you just use common since. I have sent people there to get extra remotes and dishes and have been told they got what they paid for and are very happy with the purchase. But, as the world is not a perfect place and not everyone is honest. Just be careful.
Ok… now this is the thing. You have one account, if you leave a receiver at the vacation home all the time, in reality that is considered account splitting and can get your account canceled.. If you go to your vacation home and take the receiver with you and when you return home you take it back then you can truly say it’s just for a vacation home.
So, with the vacation home and no phone line it really is no problem. The only thing is you will not be able to order PPV with that receiver and you would not have interactive TV features while it’s at the vacation home.
Hope i answered your questions, but if you have more let me know.
