Hi Trina,
Let me ask you a couple quick questions.
1) Are their any programs that you need to have? This will help decide what package would be right for you.

2) Are any of your TV’s High Definition? or Do you plan on getting a High Definition TV any time soon?
3) Do you mind if i change the title of your post. Your post mentions Comcast and Directv, but your question is about comcast and Dish Network??
This was Tria’s email to me in response to my post.
Trina, You can look on this page

You will see that the Scifi Channel is in every package…. This page will show you the prices of each package.

When it comes to the receivers you do have some choices. Let me start with the HD TV you have. Dish Network is starting to offer a new HD Receiver that is capable of mpeg4. This is going to allow for more HD Channels to be offered. Now you have a choice of two different mpeg4 HD Receivers. You can go with the vip211 HD or the vip622 HD-DVR.
The vip211 ($50.00 upgrade) is a single tuner High Definition Receiver. The vip622 ($299.00 upgrade) is a High Definition Digital Video Recorder and it’s dual tuner. Dual tuner just means one receiver will control two TV’s.
My recommendation to everyone is to get a DVR. It will make watching TV more enjoyable. My house has the DVR 622 Dual Tuner and it operates my Family room and my bed room. However, I am getting an HD TV and will be getting the new vip622 HD-DVR.
Spare bedrooms and kids bedrooms do not normally need DVR features.
If I were you…. this is what i would do.
Option one:
If your High Definition TV has PiP… I would get this:
vip622 HD-DVR…
DVR622 DVR
Option Two:
vip211 HD Receiver No DVR
DVR 622
You are really wide open on the programming depending if you see any other requirements on the page i linked to above. The movie channels are separate unless you get the Everything Pac.
I hope all this makes since, but if not or if you just have more questions let me know.
We don’t watch that much tv and don’t want to spend alot of money. We currently have comcast and rates have increased. Want to get HGTV channels (food network and home and garden). We have tvs in 4 rooms and don’t have any fancy or specials tvs. Want cheap, simple services. thanks.
