Satellite TV Offers Switching From Rabbit Ears To Satellite TV» Switching From Rabbit Ears To Satellite TVThis is an email received from Linda Getting ready to make the big switch from rabbit ears. Comparing Dish and Direct TV. The latest promo I’ve seen for Dish, which is where I’m leaning, requires, in teeny tiny print, an 18 month contract. My big question is, with all the talk of programming coming through the internet, is that to lock us 18 monthers into something that will be needlessly expensive in the near (say 6-12 months) future? 2nd question, if we move to another town/county, relatively nearby, will we be able to transfer our service? Thank you, Linda Linda, Dish Network tries to get everyone to do the 18 month commitment and what they offer in exchange for is this. If you sign up for the 18 month commitment the will give you your $49.00 activation fee back on your first months bill, also they will give you the home protection plan free. If you choose not to do the 18 month commitment then you will not get your $49.00 activation fee back and if you want the home protection plan they will charge you $5.99 each month. As far as Internet TV goes…. I don’t have any good details on that yet. So it really is hard to say how that will be structured. I expect it to be mainly like a video on demand (Movie Rentals Type Thing) and if they do have regular programming then someone will be charging. If internet programming comes to light and it turns out to be a great deal cheaper, then people won’t have a problem breaking a contract. I would expect DISH and Direct to keep pricing in-line with the competitive market, they really won’t have any choice. I hope this answered your questions and if you have more, please reply. Also i have trusted retailers for Dish Network and Direct TV on my site. Thanks for visiting! She Replied Back with a Nice Message: (Thanks Linda) thanks for your reply. I saw someone interviewed yesterday on Charlie Rose…the Netflix founder….he reiterated my concern about sattelite services being left behind with the internet ‘on demand’ services coming up, however he said he thought it would be 5-10 years before that service made it from our computers to our tv’s. That surprised me. I thought it would be sooner. I’m going for Dish. You have the site I’ve been dreaming of!! A great service. Thank you.
