Question mailed in by Jean to get a clear understanding on Dish TV:

I am interested in a Dish TV System. I have a couple of questions and the saleman confused me so here goes.

1. Can I use my VCR with the basic package? (I want to get by without getting a DVR)
2. When using the VCR on the main TV can I watch a different channel (on that same TV) while it is recording?
3. Does it distort the picture on either the live TV program or the program being recorded?
4. Can you watch one channel on the main TV and a different channel on the 2nd TV at the same time?

Please keep your answer in plain language so I can understand it.

Thank you,
Jean (Last Name Removed)

My Reply:

Hi Jean,

Ok, You can use a VCR with the standard receivers… and you can watch different channels on the second TV.

When you have two TV’s hooked up Dish will give you a 322 dual tuner receiver. This dual receiver will feed Both TV’s and each will work independently.

Now… the only thing, in my opinion, for you to think about is being able to record one channel while watching another.

The easy thing would be is for me to say no, not with a standard setup with the dual receiver. It depends on how important it is for you to be able to do this.

If it is important than i would have two suggestions.

1) You can have your VCR feed coming from the 2nd TV part of the dual receiver. That would make your VCR record what is showing on the second TV.

2) You could get the Dual 322 receiver and use it for your main TV and VCR and then have another single tuner receiver on your second TV. This will allow you to watch one channel and record another channel, at the same time someone could be watching something different on the second TV.

So it depends on how important that feature is to you, it’s not difficult even thou it might seem to be.

Why do you not want the DVR? With the DVR 625 you would be able to do this and the receiver is FREE.

Let me know if this has helped and i hope it did not confuse you more. If you need more help or have more questions on this, let me know.
