How much of an unobstructive view of the southern sky do you need for satellite TV?
We have some pines near and I am wondering if they will block reception. Is one Dish vs. Direct better with reception?

Hi, When it comes to trees..it really depends how many and how far away… also how high is your roof.

If you have a couple trees and/or your roof line is high enough you will not have a problem.

I lived in Massachusetts a few years ago and my neighbor had a few pole pines… a good 150 ft. tall. When i had my dish installed the installer placed it at the eve of my roof line…all seemed fine till the wind blew…the pines would sway back and forth, this would interfere with my signal. So i had the installer return and move the dish to the ridge of my roof and never had another problem.

Now, I live down south and my house is almost surrounded by trees… my first thought was, i would never get a signal…I had the dish installed at the ridge and the signal is great.

I guess what i am saying is this…The installers are so experienced with this type of situation…they can normally overcome it.

I have seen circumstances where say…Dish Network could not get a signal but DIRECTV could…and vise-versa. It’s because each providers dish is pointed in different elevations.

So, neither provider has a better signal than the other, but you just need to order the one that you think has the best deal for your needs and see what happens. If they can’t get a good signal they will let you know.

hope this helped and if you have anymore questions, let me know.

These suckers are BIG. About 30 ft from the house and 75 +/- tall….all in the southern sky!

ummm… you might have a problem… they need to be about 100 ft away.

You could buy a chainsaw :)
