Satellite & Cable on the same line, revisited

» Satellite & Cable on the same line, revisited

I’ve got a Dishnetwork 522 DVR. It has two tuners…the idea being I could watch the 2nd tuner from anywhere in the house. And, it works great. However, we also have cable TV (it’s a broadband thing). We use the cable for our local channels.

The DVR’s 2nd tuner can be set for a specific channel (usually something that doesnt’ conflict with your cable company’s offerings). I’m looking for a hardware recommendation that would combine the two channels into one signal. This could be a single 2-in/1-out piece, or a distribution device that would run multiple TVs.

Any suggestions?

Hi, I do have a recommendation, you would need a diplexer and maybe a multi switch.

Now it kind of depends how your house is wired as to what setup you would need. If all your cable lines are in a central location, then you would want a multi switch. With a multi switch you can combine two and three signals into one cable.

Normally at the TV you would use a diplexer to separate the signal again.

To be honest, I’m not 100% sure if it will work the way you want. Because you only want to join the signals and not split them back apart.

I just ordered a diplexer to test what you want to do. The diplexer is $5.00 and i should have it in a week. If you want you can wait till next week for me to test your situation.

You can get a multi switch here http://www.futurehomesystems.com/spaun.shtml

    and a Diplexer here http://www.futurehomesystems.com/v501.shtml

Let me know if you have more questions. This reply might seem a little vague, but if you provide some additional details of how your house is wired and after i do my test i can give you a more detailed description of what you need.

Close… The house is set up with 1 RG6 line to most places. ANd, we don’t need/want total control over all TV everywhere.

The Diplexer didn’t quite do what I wanted…but it worked as advertised. What I need is a combiner. I think I found something here (http://www.accessorywarehouse.com/install_supplies/
    supplies/index_supplies-p1.htm) that might work.
