Dan,
First, The differences in the DVR 510 and TiVo.
TiVo is a little more flexible. what i mean is with TiVo you can record one show and watch another and The DVR 510 you can not do that.
I was going to almost tell you the same for the DVR 522, but DISH just came out with The DVR 625.
Now the DVR 625 is better than TiVo.
The DVR 625 is a Dual Tuner DVR. That means you can run two TV’s independently with DVR functions. Also with the DVR 625 you can watch one channel and record another.
Better yet, two people can watch two different programs on two different TV’s and record them at the same time.
One more thing, TiVo is a service you have to pay for every month for it’s benefits.
The DVR requires no service other than DISH Network for it to work.
When your friend gave you a VHS Tape of a program from his TiVo, the only thing you have to do is hook your VHS to the DVR.
Hope this helps and it’ll keep the comments section below open for a couple day’s if you want to post additional questions.
