Kelley Baca, spokeswoman for Dish Network, quantified the average increase to be about 4.3 percent, compared to 7 percent increase in programming costs for Cable TV in 2004 alone. Filed under:   Posted By: Tomas @ 11:31 am

Major satellite television companies announced that they will be using MPEG-4 AVC codec as a standard video format for their high-definition television (HDTV) services.

The Satellite TV Companies are pursuing new high-definition television technologies predominantly because of the need for higher efficiency of bandwidth utilization. Advanced video formats like MPEG AVC or Windows Media will allow them to shrink large high-definition files into much smaller ones.

The result will be pleasing for both providers and customers – more video can be sent over the same amount of broadband or wireless bandwidth, thus keeping the cost lower. (more…)

DIRECT TV News Flash
If you had problems reaching DirecTV’s customer service department since Saturday, January 15, the reason was most probably a complete shutdown of the CSR network due to software problems.

At least these are the rumors flowing from customers who had the luck to reach a human contact (most people were getting just busy signal on the phone line).

DIRECT TV did not issue any official statement on this issue.

I have had this sent as a question in the past and thought it might be helpful to post.

Why do Direct TV Retailers offer different quantities of free receivers. You will notice one retailer giving away three receivers and another giving four free receivers… you will even find a couple that offer five free receivers.

What’s the real Deal?

This is quit simple to explain… DIRECTV rewards top performing retailers with extra incentives to offer their customers. A top performing retailer is not a just a top seller of Direct TV Satellite Systems they also need to have outstanding customer service. (more…)

The Sports Programming from Satellite TV Providers is a deciding factor for some when choosing between DISH Network and DIRECT TV. Generally speaking their really isn’t a lot of difference in the two major providers.

Except…. When it comes to Football! Direct TV has it all, The DIRECTV NFL Sunday Ticket is the most popular seasonal sports package of all time. Dish Network has many benefits over Direct TV… like the Free DVR and Free HD 811 receivers, but that it.

For hard core Football Fans, it doesn’t matter, They want Football and as much as they can get. To get a closer look at what DISH TV and DIRECTV has in Sports Programming check out the these pages.

Dish Network and Direct TV have been giving away free equipment for a long time now. One way Dish Network has set it’s self apart from DIRECTV is the FREE High Definition 811 Receiver.

DISH TV is offering this HDTV Receiver for FREE while DIRECTV is still charging hundreds. This battle for Satellite TV customers is fierce, but i don’t mind one bit. How much more can they give away?

For details on the HD 811 receiver click here

If you would like to get one of these HD 811 receivers free with free installation
